Assistant Principal - Laura Parish

Hello Seadog Family!  My name is Laura Parish, and it is my honor and privilege to serve as your assistant principal at Beaufort Elementary, the very BESt school!  Although this is my third year as an assistant principal, it is my first year at Beaufort Elementary School.  In the time that I have spent in our building, interacting with students and their families, I have seen firsthand as to why BES is cherished by all who have been fortunate enough to be a part of our school community.

As a Carteret County native, I am proud to say that I am a product of Carteret County Public Schools.  In reflecting on my own educational experiences, I am grateful for the many educational leaders who have contributed to my success along the way; such as Mr. Richard, the custodian at the old Morehead Elementary School in downtown Morehead City, who would frequently pop in to visit our classroom.   I have fond memories of Ms. Dora, my bus driver during my 5th grade year, who greeted me with a smile each and every morning.  With each year, as I moved through the grade levels, I interacted with teachers and staff who kept me engaged in the learning, motivated me, and most importantly, inspired me.  It is these early experiences, and a love for school, that led me to pursue a career in education.

Upon receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from UNC Wilmington, I began my teaching career as a first grade teacher in New Hanover County.  I then returned to  Carteret County, where I taught fourth grade for six years.  In 2012, I earned a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education, served as an elementary school counselor for the following six years, and was proudly named the Carteret County Public Schools 2018 Certified Employee of the Year.  My desire to continue providing servant leadership to my school and community then led me to completion of  a Master’s Degree in School Administration in 2018.

The opportunity to serve our students, staff, families, and community members in the role of assistant principal is a gift that I do not take for granted.  My goal each day is to be the educator and leader that every student deserves, just as I would want for my own children who are currently enrolled in Carteret County Public Schools.

I am excited to be serving alongside our principal, Mrs. Karen Wood.  Along with our fellow educational leaders, I know that amazing things will happen and our students will continue to grow and be their very BESt at Beaufort Elementary School!
